In Memoriam Arthur Jack Reynolds

Arthur Jack Reynolds

The entire Long Term Care Partners community sends its sincere condolences to the family of Arthur "Jack" Reynolds, who passed away January 8, 2012. Jack was 79 years old and had lived with multiple myeloma for four years before succumbing to complications from pneumonia.

Jack had been part of the BENEFEDS Customer Service Center since 2007. He was highly regarded by his coworkers, whom he referred to fondly as his second family.

"Jack used his wry sense of humor for turning a phrase to catch you off guard and tickle your funny bone when you least expected it," says Jeff Lane, Manager of BENEFEDS Training and Service Operations. "Often I would send emails to the Customer Service group, only to be walloped with one of Jack's zinger replies. We had a running joke about me staying off the sauce after I sent one unfortunate email asking if anyone had any hot sauce for my burrito. Sorry, Jack. I fell off the wagon and I'm back on the sauce—Tabasco, that is."

"Jack was a role model for how to stay active and engaged; a lesson I hope to remember in my later years, although it's a good lesson at any age," says Bryan Olivier, Senior Training and Curriculum Developer. "I will miss Jack."

Amber Fogg, BENEFEDS Quality Care Coordinator, says of Jack, "He had a spring in his step. During Open Season, I was the unofficial coffee barista and brewed a pot of coffee every morning. Jack got a slight look of concern whenever he'd see me making it. He'd say, 'I bet I'll be bouncing off the walls with one cup of that,' (The coffee was usually a bit strong.) His happy spirit and clever humor will stay with me."

"Jack's humor and wit will be greatly missed," says Marlena Cahill, Premium Administrative Analyst FEDVIP. "I remember sitting with him when I was in training for customer service. He was patient, kind, and assured me I'd 'get the hang of it.' He was right, of course. Even after I changed departments, I looked forward to chatting with Jack at company events. He had a sweet tooth. Most of all, I'll miss his smile, upbeat attitude, and the way he could always make me laugh."

"I'm deeply saddened by the passing of Jack," says Chief Executive Officer Paul Forte. "I liked to visit Jack just to talk, coaxing out of him observations on all kind of things." Paul continues, "A company is not simply a group of employees who work together. At its best, it's a community of people who share aspirations and help each other to achieve them. Jack's wit, humor, kindness, courtesy, and positive attitude were a bright spot in our day. He will be sorely missed."

Jack's daughter Gwen DeYoung-Martin, the FLTCIP's longest-serving CLTC consultant, says that he died as he had lived—with dignity and grace. He was surrounded by family and friends, and listened to Gustav Mahler's Symphony no. 2 (Resurrection) as he departed.

Donations in Jack's honor may be made to South Church for the establishment of an organ concert program, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, or the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
