The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) recently concluded its much anticipated Open Season on June 24, 2011. More than 48,000 Federal family members applied for coverage over a 12-week period. This was a significant event both in the history of the FLTCIP program and within the private long term care industry. Total enrollment in the FLTCIP now stands at more than 270,000.

Given its many innovative product features and services, and its appeal to members of the Federal family, the FLTCIP continues to be the largest group long term care insurance program in the United States and one of the most efficiently operated. Response to the FLTCIP has been impressive when compared to non-FLTCIP, private long term care insurance sales. According to a recent report by the Life Insurance and Market Research Association, during the first half of 2011, more people enrolled in the FLTCIP than in all other existing group long term care insurance programs combined.
